Why is it that you cannot get a sunroof or navigation on manual XVs? What if you want a sunroof but not a CVT?

Because a-la-carte optioning is dead and option packages are the industry standard now.

But why can you not any of the packages with a manual.

I bet if you walked into a dealer with a check they might be able to make that happen

I have the “oppo”site problem - Civic Sis and the 2.5 motor Mazda 3s all come with a sunroof so I don’t fit... It’s too bad the flexibility with a ordered vehicle isn’t a little better...
You might drive one of the CVT Crosstreks - we just got one for my wife. It is far and away the best CVT car I’ve driven - yes, a little quirky but still very enjoyable to drive. And if you are doing any significant freeway driving it’s clearly the better option due to the higher top gearing.

Get Outback XT. Solve all problems

Because there are about 500 people in all of America that want things like a manual and leather in the same car.
I am one of those 500. I miss my manual legacy.

I drove one that my driving school had and hated it. It would be my Mom’s car though.

Because automakers hate the enthusiast.

The concept right now is to possibly get a new family wagon to replace my Mom’s Legacy 3.6R as my sisters Outback is getting too old to use for long trips. I was trying to get the options my Mom would want while avoiding a CVT. It was just something they were talking about this morning that I am keeping myself busy with during the Indycar rain delay.

They want you to save the wagons because Subaru loves us and they care. Skip the hatch and get the proper wagon version (which they call Forester instead of XV Estate for some unknown reason) and you can get the sunroof with a manual. The Forester 2.5i Premium can be had with the 6MT and (huge) sunroof. No navigation option with the manual, but that’s easier to add aftermarket than a sunroof. I also think it is more handsome... But I might be biased.
Actually IDK why. It seems to be the industry norm now to only offer manuals on lower trims and package things like nav and sunroofs on higher trims that can only be had in auto. I saw the same thing shopping Mazda, Hyundai, and VW last year. Unless you’re looking for something sporty like a FoST or WRX you aren’t going to see much in the way of options pairs with manuals. In fact with the latest Legacy/Outback dropping the stick, it wouldn’t surprise me if the next-gen Impreza/XV/Forester lost it save maybe for the lowest base model. I wish that weren’t the case, but the writing seems to be on the wall.
Seriously though, if you or someone you know is looking at an XV at least test drive a Forester too. I’m glad I got it instead, but I can see why the XV is popular.

I am going to counter-point and say the impreza is not going to drop the manual. They have to fit the manual to the impreza platform to be able to have manual WRXs. They might as well sell it at that point.

Good point. But it wouldn’t surprise me if the relegate it to the stripper 2.0i base models with black trim, steelies/hubcaps, and no options until you add the CVT like the Legacy manual was the last few years of the previous gen.

You could get a manual on the top trim Legacy 2.5GT until they canceled that trim with the current model.

LGT stopped production in ‘12 while the chassis carried on thru ‘14. When they killed the GT before the end of the generation it seemed to be a signal that high content with a manual was something they were phasing out.
Speaking of which, they didn’t sell many LGT’s and prices are still very high. So obviously there is a market or the used prices would have tanked by now. So maybe they'll offer a run of something similar or give us the Foz XT with a manual for a year or two who knows.

Nope. Though those had a manual option as well up until a few years ago.

Because they likely only have 1 assembly line that builds manuals, and those options are too different and would affect the line rate
